Alaska Ski Vacations

With a top elevation of 2751 feet and a

2501 vertical drop, the area gets an average of 631

inches of snow annually.

Although this is some of the best skiing in the world,

you won’t find the slopes overly crowded, and there

are no long lift lines. There are nine lifts, including

six chair lifts and two surface lifts, and one cable

car line. There are 68 trails for beginners,

intermediates, and experts, with the majority of the

trails designed for intermediate skiers.

Night time skiing is allowed, which makes your ski

experience more adventurous and thrilling. You will

see snow capped mountains, hanging glaciers, and

of course, the famous Northern Lights. This resort is

ranked number nine of the top twenty-five killer ski

trips by Skiing Magazine.

The season begins at the Alyeska Resort in mid

November, and runs through mid April. This area of

Alaska boasts the longest daytime areas in the

United States, with approximately sixteen hours of

daylight each day during April. During December,

however, there are only about seven hours of daylight

– which makes night time skiing necessary if you

are going to get in the time that you want to spend

on the slopes.

The Alyeska Prince Hotel is the place to stay! Here

you will enjoy elegant rooms and fine dining. Nightly

entertainment is available as well. There are other

nightlife spots in the area as well, that are not

associated with the Hotel.

If tubing interests you, then visiting the Glacier

Tubing Park is an absolute must! Featuring two

lanes of terrain and a surface lift, everyone in the

family will enjoy spending time at the tubing park.

The Alyeska Terrain Park is a must for

snowboarding enthusiasts. Other winter activities

that can be enjoyed in and around the Alyeska

Resort include flight seeing, helisking, ocean

cruising tours, dog sledding, ice climbing, back

country skiing, mountaineering, and polar bear

viewing.

At the Alyeska Resort, the ultimate winter vacation

can be experienced. Brave the elements, then return

to the Hotel for some pampering. Get a taste of what

Alaska is really like, and what skiing is meant to be!

There are activities for the entire family to enjoy, and

there are many area sights and attractions to be

enjoyed as well. This really is an awesome winter

family ski vacation!

Colorado Slopes

Do you know that in Crested Butte Colorado you can ski over the mountains to Aspen? Some say the skiers are crazy. Some skier's ski at midnight, which is a perilous 12-hour journey over the Rockies, called the Grand Traverse, risking avalanches and exhaustion. The pleasure of crosses county skis for grand trailblazing in Crested Butte. The scenery is mind bogglingly beautiful. In Breckenridge, I soaked up the history of century-old Victorian houses and inns. Copper Mountain, Breckenridge and Crested Butte are three very different resorts in Colorado is a state that attracts a lot of people to its 26 ski areas. The ski resorts of Colorado some of the country's most spectacular and certainly most popular, had a record 12.53 million visitors during the 2005-06 winter season.

The ski resorts of Colorado, has some of the country's most spectacular and certainly most popular, had a record of 12.53 million visitors during the 2005-06 winter season. Colorado is at the peak of the nation's ski industry, and it is once again maintained as a top ski industry. Colorado ski resorts consist of Arapahoe Basin, Aspen a Highlands, Aspen Mountain, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Buttermilk, Copper Mountain, Crested Butte, Durango (Purgatory), Echo Mountain Park, Eldora, Howelsen, Keystone, Loveland, Monarch Mountain, Powderhorn, Silverton Mountain, Ski Cooper, Snowmass, SolVista, Steamboat, Sunlight, Telluride, Vail Winter Park/Mary Jane and Wolf Creek Ski Area. Those looking for authentic Western ambience where skiers wear cowboy hats on the slopes and cowboy boots in the saloons go to Steamboat Springs. Visitors, who want great ski schools, especially for beginners and the disabled, go to Winter Park and Crested Butte. But you can 't go wrong with any Colorado ski resort. Which one is for you?

St. Moritz, Switzerland

St. Moritz in Switzerland is a well known ski resort. It happened that I had an opportunity to visit there at summer time.

Although it was not the ski season I had wonderful time there.

The weather was wonderful. It was sunny all day long, the view is amazing and very clear.

The mountain train and funicular works at summer time as well.

So I started my visit at the town's lower part (bad). I walked along the river and then in the beautiful park surrounding the lake. It felt like walking in a picture or a post card.

The lake itself is beautiful and calming. The mountains are high, with different colors, and on top of them I observed snow "leftovers".

After taking a walk in the park, I took the mountain train to the top of the mountain, to the ski routes.

The scenery there is beyond words. There were no clouds, so I could see the lake and town from the top of the mountain.

Moreover the way that leads there is amazing too.

The town itself is very pleasant. I ate my lunch in one of its restaurant, and for dessert I had some of the delicious Swiss chocolate.

If you will happen to be in the area at summer time, I warmly recommend a visit to this town.

Enjoy!

The Uncertain Future of the European Skiing holidays

Morzine in particular, (one example of a great British ski destination), has suffered this over sight by the Tourist Office who have chosen not to lodge their webcam at the skiing altitude, but rather at a 900 meter resort level.

Thankfully, various ski associations with first hand knowledge of the actual snow levels of last season have sought public correction and recognition from the media as to the unfounded nature of their premature remarks; remarks about the uncertain future of European skiing holidays.

Indeed the resorts where skiing is placed below 1300 meters are experiencing the "wrong kind of precipitation", as temperatures are rising. However if you pick a resort where the skiing is above 1300 meters, then you will be experiencing normal skiing conditions and full coverage of ski area, which nowadays is further enhanced by snow cannons; snow cannons that are actually making the skiing better than ever before.

French Alps

Recently I went on a skiing holiday to the French Alps to a place near Chamonix called Notre Dame de Bellecombe. We spent most of our time on the blue runs in Notre Dame de Bellecombe on Mont Rond. There were many good runs with challenging red runs and blue runs as well as simple green runs for beginners and black runs with moguls.

We also went to Crest Voland a village round the corner from where we were staying, there on Mont Lachat there were even better runs with longer relaxing green runs to the blue runs that carried you down the mountain. There were no Black runs here but there was a bar and restaurant you could ski to if you wanted a snack or drink.

We also went to Les Saises which was a more touristy place but it was obvious why as the snow was much deeper there. The runs were a lot easier than I had expected with the red runs being more like blue runs and the blues like greens. But was still a great day skiing.

The Best runs in this area though were:

Mont Rond - Red Run - Notre Dame de Bellecombe

Bleue de Lac - Blue Run - Notre Dame de Bellecombe

La Criee - Blue Run - Crest Voland

Les Deserts - Green Run - Crest Voland

Grande Combe - Blue Run - Les Saises

Chevreuills - Red Run - Les Saises
