Machu Picchu, in the language quechua; “Machu Pikchu” (“Old Pico”), also is called “the lost city of the Incas”. It is a pre-Columbian, situated city in the top of a mountain, the 2,057 meters of altitude, in the valley of the river Urubamba, in the Perú, hidden in the forest, encircled of other sacred mountains and with an almost perfect celestial alignment. It was ordered to construct for the sovereign Inca Pachacuti, in the XV century.

This mysterious city was discovered by the professor American north Hiram Bingham (head of an expedition of the University of Yale) the 24 of July of 1911.Bingham was anthropologist, historian and explorer become a fan in archaeology. In its hollowings, not very orthodox, it found some objectos in bronze, it has covered, silver and rock, not finding nothing in gold, but convincing it, of that the ruins retraced to the esplendor of the period Inca.

The city is divided by two great areas; the agriculturist, formed for terraces and enclosures where they stored foods; e the urban one, where if it detaches the sacred zone, with temples, squares and palaces. It has diverse theories on its function, most accepted it is that it was constructed to supervise the economy of the conquered regions and with the private intention to protect the sovereign Inca and its military next in attack case.

The ways that took to city were hidden at common population, therefore the secret was the main military defense. The known enclosures more are: The “Acllawasi” (“house of the chosen ones”), a temple of sun virgins. The “Intiwatana”, the solar clock, that marked the stations of the year. In 1997 a fire destroyed part of the vegetation of the city.

Machu Pichu, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, is located on Urubamba Valley in Peru. It is at 88 km distance to the nearest city, Cusco. Famous Urubamba river flows though this city. Machu Pichu is located 2350 meters above the sea level and at the zenith of a granite mountain.

Machu Pichu,as being a Peruvian word, means “old peak”. Additonally, it is referred to “The lost city of Incas”. The history of the city dates back to Inca civilization. According to the records, it was built in the middle of the 15th century by Incas. However, it is the known that natural inhabitants abandoned the city and migrated to remote cities in the following 100 years. Even though it is not exact what caused this migration, researchers guess what the reason is weather conditions or economical problems.

Machu Pichu is now an archeological site where many researchers, scientists, archeologists, historians and university students have done excavations. They have found many things related to Inca culture during these excavations. Some of the buldings like temples in excavation area is colossal and made up of very huge stone blocks. It is not yet understood how these stones are carried to Machu Pichu and put one top of the another. This mystery is still unsolved.

The lost city was discovered by Hiram Bingham with the assist of 1200 people. Researches have shown that the city was seperated into three areas, urban, religious and agricultural namely. Whereas religious areas which were located on the hills, agricultural and urban regions were placed on the plains.

To naturalists, it is one of the most enigmatic and scentic places of the world with its gorgeous nature. Colossal temples are like a witness of glorious Inca's splendor. This legendary city has been visited by 2000 people daily.

And finally, as I do everytime, our visual tour starts after this brief introduction.

Intihuatana stone (Hitching post of the sun ) was used for astronomical purposes by Incas. It was used to measure the angle of sun and determine when the solstices and equinoxes happen.

Temple of sun was shaped like a semicircle on a solid granite block .This is the most famous one of ancient Machu Pichu ruins. To chronicles, it was initially designed by precious stones and even gold. The building has two trapezoidal windows.

Temples of three windows are located on the eastern part of religious area. In the construction of this, enormous blocks were used and fitted into proper sections meticulously.

Istanbul, Amsterdam and Rome. These three beautiful city are my favourite places on the Earth. I feel lucky because I live in Turkey and see all the beauty in Istanbul. Another luck of me is that I work for an airline company and they send me various cities as a free of charge every year. I was in Rome two years ago where I made a lot of Italian friends. I visited very fantastic places and took gorgeous photos. This article is for people who wants to travel to Rome one day. Here is my favourite places that I want you to see.

After all, you know that Rome is famous with fountains. Most of the them date back to Mediveal ages. There are also many historical places dating from Roman empire times. Our tour begins with Colosseum.

Colosseum

Colossal construction located in the centre of Rome. It is the largest building constructed by Roman Empire and it is one of the most well-known architectural structures of Romans. This big structure is also called Flavian Amphitheatre.

Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica

It is also known as Saint Mary Major Basilica. Ancient catholic basilica dates back from 5th century. Many of the mosaics are also from this period. Old basilica was restored many times throughout centuries.

Cestius Pyramid

The pyramid of Cestius was constructed by famous Roman Emperor Augustus between BC 18 and 12. It was made of marbles with a height of 30 meters. It is near to the Protestant cemetery.

Trevi Fountain

It is located in famous Trevi square. It was constructed by Nicola Salvi and Bernini between 1732 and 1762. People throw the coins on to the water and then makes wishes. It is one of the good examokes of Baroque style.
