Alessandro Mazzucchetti modeled it after London's famous King’s Cross station and the design originally consisted arrivals and departures halls separated by a chamber with a semicircular roof.

Because of radical modifications in the early 20th century the interior structure is changed completely but what does remain is the magnificent façade.
