When You're Hot

Baby, it's HOT outside!

July and August are typically the hottest months of the summer and, for most of us, the driest. Melting as you make your way from air-conditioned house to car? Drenched in perspiration by the time you reach the office? Scanning the skies for those ever elusive rain clouds and thinking, “Just a little rain, PLEASE!” as you stare at empty blue? You're not alone. While it may be miserably dry where you live, there are some spots you definitely wouldn't want to earn your living selling umbrellas or rain slickers; they're the driest places in the planet.

For the US the three driest cities are not a big surprise. Located in Arizona, Nevada and California, the three hold the record for the least rainfall in the US per year.

Yuma, AZ is the driest city in the country, ranking in at only 3 inches of rain each year. Located in southern Arizona, in the Yuma and Gila Valleys, it is surrounded by picturesque mountains mountains and boasts the cool waters of the Colorado River. Ranked by Money Magazine as one of the most desirable places to live in the United States, it is a favorite for residents and visitors alike. Fresh air, a rich history and friendly population makes Yuma a welcoming, but dry place to go.

Las Vegas, Nevada ranks as the States number two most dry city, receiving an average of only 4 inches of rain per year. That doesn't seem to bother anybody; the city averages 40 thousand tourists each year and is supported primarily by tourist trade. There are hundreds of things to do in Vegas, from golfing to gambling, shows to museums, Grand Canyon tours to grand eating at Emeril's. Dry or not, Vegas is definitely a winner.

The third driest city is located in California. Receiving an average of only 5 inches of wet stuff per year, Bishop is located at the edge of the Death Valley Park and Mammoth Lakes. While Bishop doesn't thrive on its tourism industry, it's a great destination for the outdoor enthusiast. The Owens River, South Lake or Lake Sabrina offer great spots for fishing and rock climbers will enjoy the peaks of the Buttermilks. With a wide choice of campgrounds in the area, backpacking, hiking or mountain-biking the Sierra High Country is a breeze, and not much will beat a soak in primitive Hot Springs. It seems the dry weather here is viewed as an asset.

For the world-traveler in you, Aswan, Egypt is the driest city in the world, receiving an average of 0.02 inches of rain per year. Australia is the world's driest continent. Eighty per cent of the continent has an average annual rainfall less than 19 inches. Tourism in Australia seems to be booming, too.

I guess it's true … When you're hot, you're hot!

Inexpensive Vegas Vacation

You can enjoy "Big Baller" treatment in Las Vegas, NV for under $800.00. That's two round trip airfare tickets, and three nights in a four-star hotel.

My wife and I just recently returned from our vacation in Las Vegas. We stayed at the Golden Nugget in downtown Las Vegas. It was a very enjoyable, and well needed trip. As I stated earlier, unless you are a big gambler, it can be a very rewarding inexpensive trip. Upon checking in at the hotel, we were given a $250.00 coupon book that has everything from 2 for 1 at the buffet to money for the slot machines.

Once we got up the next morning, we were approached by some people to go on a presentation for a timeshare. As you may know, you can receive some cool stuff when you go on these presentations. At first of course, we were apprehensive about going, but they offered us 2 show tickets for $25.00 a piece, which are $60.50 for the seats that we had, $200.00 in slot money at the hotel, and a 3 day/ 2 night cruise to the Bahamas. Well, this was an offer that we couldn't refuse for only 2 hours of our time, which came in handy because we won $300.00 with the slot money. We actually won back plus more than the money we spent on the whole trip.

Vegas is, of course, most known for its gambling, but has some of the most exquisite hotels, restaurants, buffets, and shopping. The sightseeing is amazing with the Rockie Mountains as its backdrop. The "City of Lights" is a must see for everyone. The only bad point of the trip was the heat. It was 105 - 109 degrees during the day, but the hotel pool with the shark tank was enough to keep cool during those times.

To enjoy the fun in Vegas for under $800.00, go to HotWire It's best to book at leat 3 months in advance for the best price. Just click on Flight & Hotel, and get the best prices that Vegas has to offer. Out of all the sight that I have searched, this one has the best prices.

The Top Three Las Vegas Casinos For Locals

As a rare native of Las Vegas, Nevada, I try my hardest to get away from the annoying tourist that visit my hometown on a daily basis. There is no down time or off season here. There is busy and not as busy. Surprisingly, there are the few tourists that feel the same way. Not everyone wants the loud atmosphere, crowded bars and twenty-five dollar max bet video poker machines. Some go for simple fun. I know it sounds odd but it is more than true.

Through a lot of trial and error I have weeded out the casinos that claim to be for “locals”, and found the true diamonds in the rough. These casinos don't have you leaving with a hangover headache when you didn't even have one Zima. Like it or not they aren't just for the old anymore, they are also for those burned out with the constant madness of this big city of sin.

Last on my list, coming in at number three is Terrible's Hotel and Casino . Located in the center of Las Vegas at 4100 Paradise Road. With it's lack of kid related activities and almost laughable casino space, this casino seems perfect for the local gambler. WRONG! It is in the center of a restaurant district that includes such popular hotspots as Chinese restaurant P.F. Changs and Italian eatery Buca Di Beppo. It has plenty of players club contests that seemed geared for the high roller or the retired ten plus hour a day gambler to win. That also makes it hard to find a place to gamble on a drawing night in such a small casino area. If you're looking to bet on sports, good luck with that. Their lines come out shortly before the start of the games if you can be so lucky. This casino is for the frugal tourist that doesn't mind being in cramped spaces.

The good thing about this casino is that they don't have the tendency to blare the music, you can find a cocktail waitress (occasionally, usually depends if you throw them a dollar or two followed by some banter) and you can convert your players club points into cash or use them to pay for your buffet, dinner at their one restaurant or pay for the things you don't need at their gift shop. On the local scale I give this a 2.5 out of 5 chips.

Next up, at number two Boulder Station Hotel and Casino . On the east side of the city it has local written all over it. It has the prime location sitting at 4111 Boulder Hwy. It was surprisingly hard to find something negative to say about the joint but of course I came through. Who would have though there would be a such thing as too many restaurants? Well they figured out a way. Their food court is more like a food avenue. All jammed together making you stand in awe and confusion. One person wants Italian while they other is eying Burger King. A fight ensues and you end up at The Feast. The Feast is their massive buffet that is very good, always hot but it has one major flaw. The price. Boulder Station has the atmosphere for the local but the price point of the tourist.

Enough of the negatives, here goes the positives. You can spend a whole day at there and go home not just happy ecstatic. From their dining to the movie theatre, a good time can be had by everyone if all ages. Not too many tourists walking slowly taking in the sights creating a traffic jam, drunks making everyone put down their rum and coke and grab a bottled water or cocktail waitresses acting as if you just ruined their day by asking for a drink. Boulder Station is one of the original casinos for locals and hopefully it stays that way. 3 out of 5 chips.

Last but certainly not least, Sam's Town Hotel & Gambling Hall located at 5111 Boulder Hwy. It has it all. From a movie theatre to a brand new massive sports book, this casino knows how to give love to its locals. At their Sam's Town Live venue they show free WWE pay per view in which you would otherwise have to shell out some cash to order at home. Their Firelight Buffet is one of the best in town and their food court has everyone's favorites. At various times of the day they have laser shows that make you stop, “smell the roses” and be entertained by something so simple.

They have a happy combination of things for locals and tourists that works. It's never too crowded because of their vast selection of slots and video poker machines. Just one downfall. If you are there late at night and sitting near Roxy's, you just might hear the drunk karaoke going on. Very funny if you are in a great mood, very annoying if you are in mood anything less. Hard to give this place anything less than 4.5 out 5 chips. Hey, no place is perfect.

Vegas wouldn't be Vegas without some honorable mentions, so here we go. Arizona Charlie's Hotel and Casino, South Point Hotel and Casino, Silverton Hotel and Casino and all other Station Casino properties failed to make the list but still are awesome in their own way.

The Honeymoon Locations are Amazing

Couples need to organize their honeymoon to celebrate their weddings. The custom is to travel abroad to celebrate the union. This has always been a mystery because of the financial means that are involved. These couples must have saved money to go on a honeymoon. This can lead to think that a happy marriage means the possibility to have a honeymoon.

In fact, the word honeymoon tells the whole story. There are two words in one, which are honey and moon. Honey is a jam. The bees get the pollen from the flowers and then they make honey thanks to the work of the Queen Bee and of the Buds, which are her worker. Honey can calm throat pains and has a good impact on the voice. Moon is an asteroid. At night the moon can light the sky like the sunshine does during the day. So, during a honeymoon the couples can seat together and talk all night to make plans for the future.

After the wedding ceremony the newly wed need to decide where to go for the honeymoon. The most famous traditional destinations for a honeymoon are in Italy, Vietnam, Benin and the United States of America. The couples go respectively in this case to Venice, Saigon, Abomey and Las Vegas. Venice is built on water. It is a town, which is known being rebuilt by the United Nations Fund for Education, Science and Communication (UNESCO).

Saigon is in Vietnam but because of the war between North and South Vietnam it has not been possible to organize honeymoons there for a long time. Abomey in Benin is also built on waters. Benin, Togo, Burundi and Rwanda where United Nations protectorates of Germany and they have received some assistance with regards to technology. Las Vegas in the United States of America is famous for the Casino. The most serious game is poker where you have to use intelligence. Many country musicians have registered music in Las Vegas and it is the dream of everybody to go to listen to them one day.

Well, you understand that going on a honeymoon needs some financial means. There are those who go for a honeymoon more than one time. This means that a honeymoon is a good time to socialize. There are some tourist destinations which have become more likely to interest couples who want to go on another honeymoon and the countries are Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa which have wildlife and very delicious biological food. The other interesting places to go to are France, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland and Canada to do some shopping for long lasting clothes. I recommend Belgium and Switzerland for a honeymoon because of the cool weather in these places you tend to be at home at five in the afternoon and sleep early to wake up in the middle of the night to see the stars shine in the sky and feel their warm radiations.

All of this makes us think that going on a honeymoon is very important. You go to see what other populations are doing and you in return will try to do your best to build a better world. It is on honeymoon that you feel the need to help children. You see how they cope and you want to help them in anyway, like you would like your children to be helped.

So, going on a honeymoon is no longer a mystery. You have to know how to budget in order to buy an airplane ticket, get a room in a hotel and plan trips, which are memorable and bring back souvenirs. You want to feel good for yourself and for others by bringing back pictures to make them dream.

Experience Las Vegas

Las Vegas is like a theme park for adults. From the moment you touch down at McCarran Airport you enter an alternative universe. Where else could you be greeted by the sight of slot machines even before you've left the terminal? Where else can you view the Eiffel Tower besides the wonders of ancient Egypt and the canals of Venice? And where else can you get married in a drive-thru wedding chapel serenaded by Elvis? There is really only one Las Vegas.

It is safe to conclude that Las Vegas has successfully changed its image from a desert city full of gamblers and ostentatious hotels, to a world class destination for people seeking new adventures. An evening stroll to take in the neon lights is unforgettable. This is a place to take in show with top talent, try your luck at casino games they don't have in Kansas, eat in truly wonderful restaurants and soak up the sun in surroundings of some of the world's most incredible hotels. And when you've had enough of gambling and razzmatazz there's still some serious shopping to be enjoyed.

Las Vegas is the gambling capital of the world, and you can't visit without trying your luck at least one of the casinos on Las Vegas Boulevard, better known as The Strip. By day these casinos are breathtakingly opulent but at night they are out of this world as millions of neon lights transform the city into a shining vision. Nowhere is more dazzling that at the north end of The Strip on Fremont Street. And the choice of where to gamble, eat or see a show is truly mind-boggling.

At the Bellagio hotel, modeled on Italy's Lake Como, you can lose your shirt on gambling tables while being mesmerized by its dancing fountains. Or try The Venetian, where you can take a gondola ride down the Grand Canal before hitting the slot machines. Circus Circus has its own theme park, trapeze artists and juggling cocktail waitresses. Then there's Excalibur, which recreates King Arthur's Camelot, complete with sword swallowing knights. Caesar's Palace is the quintessential Vegas resort and huge stars such as Celine Dion and Elton John have performed in its spectacular Roman Colosseum theater. The Luxor is home to a 36 story pyramid, a golden sphinx and a tomb of Tutankhamun. You can even pretend you're on an island in the Pacific if you visit The Mirage. There's you'll find an erupting volcano, dolphins and a tropical themed casino. At the Mandalay Bay you can watch predators in the shark reef before enjoying the international hit musical MAMA MIA. All these casinos are really resorts with everything you need-restaurants, shops, health spas, art galleries and theatres-all under the same roof.

If you choose, you don't need to set foot out of your hotel. But that would mean missing out on some extraordinary sights and experiences, not to mention the opportunity to get a tan. Las Vegas is in the middle of the Mojave Desert so there's not much chance of your holiday being a washout in terms of the weather. In fact it rarely rains there. The summer can be very hot, but if it's too warm by the pool, you can always visit one of the many shopping malls.

Don't miss the outlet centers, with some 250 shops and name brands like Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Dolce & Gabbana. Even while you are out shopping, then entertainment goes on. Inside the huge Fashion Show Mall, there are snowstorms, fashion shows and The Cloud-a massive steel structure projecting movies and images above the heads of the customers.

If shopping is not for you, hit the heights on one of La Vegas's top rides. The Roller Coaster at New York-New York is scary enough but it pales in comparison with X-Scream at the Stratosphere, which whizzes through the air at up to 30mph before dangling riders 900 feet above The Strip.

Back down on the ground, don't miss one of Vegas's legendary shows. Nowhere on earth does razzle-dazzle like here, with big name stars, favorite musicals and dancers in eye-popping costumes. The popular Cirque du Soleil has several shows running in Las Vegas, but book early. It's virtually impossible to get tickets at the last minute.
Many people go to Las Vegas to "tie the knot" and certainly have a wedding to remember. At the Las Vegas Hilton, wedding are out of this world. Ceremonies take place on the Star Trek's USS Enterprise with alien Klingons as witnesses. And, of course, there are the drive-thru wedding chapels which go from tacky to hilarious in their attempts to out-do one another.

If you thought Las Vegas was just for night owls and gamblers, you were wrong. As the city continues to develop and expand, you can bet on a different experience each time you go. There is a famous saying that "whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas," but there is one thing you are allowed to bring home-and that is a set of amazing memories.

Excalibur Hotel & Casino

It embodies the charm of a medieval castle without having to visit Europe, while still adding appeal to the modern day visitor.

Location

The hotel is located at 3850 Las Vegas Boulevard South, Las Vegas, Nevada 89109, which is on the strip and close to many other local attractions and sites in Las Vegas. The hotel is just 1 mile from McCarran Airport. To make a reservation call toll-free at 1-877-750-5464. The hotel is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The check in time is 3:00pm and the check out time is 11:00am.

Age Restrictions

As the Excalibur Hotel & Casino provides gambling facilities, guests must be 21 years of age or above to be able to book and check into a hotel room, even if the reason for the visit is for non-gambling purposes. Underage minors cannot book their own hotel room, but can only accompany their parents or other adults they are with at the time.

My husband and I have visited the Excalibur Hotel & Casino twice and stayed in it once. It was a good choice for a hotel, as it was close to so many sites on the strip and the inside of the Excalibur Hotel & Casinohad lots of great shopping opportunities and various eateries to choose from.

Rooms

There are almost 4,000 rooms in the Excalibur Hotel & Casino designed to suit different budgets and personal requirements. As you peruse the Excalibur Hotel & Casino site you will be able to view slide shows of the rooms available to give you a better idea of what you might like to book. You can choose from King, Queen, King Spa or Suites.

Amenities

All of the hotel rooms offer basic services such as an alarm clock, cable TV, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, a shower and swimming pool access. However, there are no coffee pots, microwaves or cookers provided for guests to use. Although high-speed Internet access is available, it does not come for free. It costs $11.99 for 24 hours.

Recommendation

The Excalibur Hotel & Casino was a nice hotel to stay in. I am not a gambler, but I did appreciate the shopping facilities and there were some good restaurants to choose from. The hotel provided basic amenities and services. But the hotel can be quite expensive in the summer months and rooms can go fast, so it is best to check availability and book your rooms in advance.

The Grumpy Traveler Goes to Vegas

My first trip to Las Vegas was interesting and enlightening, a blessing in disguise. I only lost a couple hundred bucks to the casino, and we made it home alive.

I witnessed almost a dozen automobile accidents and was advised of three shootings during the first 48 hours. Welcome to the Wild West meets Disneyland.

All the accidents and the drive from the airport to the hotel led me to the conclusion that in Las Vegas ninety-eight percent of the people do not know how to drive, and the remaining two percent are lost. I am ashamed to say I was in both categories at one point or another during our stay.

In Las Vegas no one uses their turn signals, it must be a law, and even if they do forget and use it, it is usually to late to be meaningful. This was verified by the police officer who pulled me over and asked if I was from out of town, I said yes and asked how he knew, he said I was using my turn signal too often and it was confusing the other drivers. The road system is woefully inadequate and confusing. Please allow to me explain.

The two main arteries are 15 also known as 93 (part of the time), which runs north and south, most of the time (sometimes it goes east west). The other is 95 also known as 515 and 93, although it is perpendicular to 15/93 in downtown Las Vegas, it also runs north and south (OK, sometimes it goes east west). Not too confusing, just wait. Las Vegas Boulevard is also known as The Strip or 604, with various personality names thrown in for good luck. City planners change street names more often than I change my underwear, Industrial Drive will soon be known as Dean Martin Way, or Sammy Davis Circle or Rat Pack Drive, I am not quite sure. A four-way intersection may have four different street names, one for each direction. Many roads have two names. Good luck.

I think the rental car companies and the oil companies, worked something out with the casino conglomerates. Either that or the City planners are all dizzy from playing slots and can't see straight. In spite of them, we made it to the hotel.

Because we arrived late and the airline food was so tasty and nutritious, we ordered room service. I had a bowl of soup and a grilled cheese sandwich for $20.00 not including tip. What a bargain. The soup was lukehot and the sandwich was soggy. Much better than the airline though.

I got out my laptop to check my email and see what entertainment was available for the next day. I turned on, hooked up, and clicked only to find a new home page explaining the procedures and fees for daily use of the internet. A bargain at only $11.99 for each 24 hour period, that's a day to most of us. That is twenty times the price I pay at home.

I am starting to get the picture, grilled cheese at home about $1.25, here $12.95. So everything is between ten and twenty times normal prices. I guess I can go without, for a week. I can fax anything important, how much could that cost. Guest services graciously explained, at no charge, the $6.00 per page fee,. Wow, a casino with something for nothing, even though it was only information, I was amazed there was no catch.

OK, no grilled cheese, no internet. Wait a minute; I thought vacations were supposed to be about spoiling ourselves.

By the way, on the sixth day I found an excellent Korean/French bakery called Tresor or something like that, with couches and free internet, yes I said FREE. Better late than never. Now, if I could only find my way back

.

The young man behind the counter had recently moved to Vegas from Texas with his family, he was not very happy about it, but he was very pleasant and helpful, despite his current situation.

We found many things to do through old fashion leg work and the telephone. It took way too much time but we were on a budget - eat or surf. The Hoover Dam, formerly known as Prince, I mean Boulder Dam, was a marvelous site though it appears to still be under construction. Parking was only $7.00, don't they know how close to Vegas they are?

We found out the hard way that the old fashion way has its draw backs. Everyone we talked to, including the resource center at the library, said that the north rim of the Grand Canyon was much prettier than the south rim, so we headed for the town of North Rim, only a four hour ride. They did not mention that it does not open until Spring. They close the Grand Canyon for the winter - who is in charge of this. Four hours later we were at the south rim, just after dark. What a view. If you squint you can almost see a big hole. Lucky for us there was a room available at the Lodge. The view of the canyon in the morning with sunlight was worth the trip, and it only cost us about $20.00 extra for gas to drive all the way around the Grand Canyon. Yes folks we drove all the way around the Grand Canyon. Those poor settlers. They should have set up camp upon arrival and waited for the invention of the automobile.

For our next act, we went to a comedy show. Oy vay he said over and over, but he did not complain about the tables. I guess he does not go to see shows. They were so small we could barely fit two $15.00 drinks on them. Really a coaster with legs. There were six people at the table next to us, it was like being inside a sardine can with a high roof.

We picked our next show because it was in a theater with seats. Of course my wife had to raise her hand when the comedian asked for questions from the audience. He was picking on everyone who was brave enough to do so. What was she thinking? When her turn came, she stood up to get her share of abuse, and he looked right at me, still sitting, and said, “Are you her husband?”. I guess my abuse me light was still on. I made the mistake of saying yes, and he ripped me a new one. Why me? She was standing, not me. A 6'8” Jew ripping an Arab a new one, now I know why they are still fighting in the Middle East.

We went to most of the free shows, the gay pirates vs. the whores at TI, the fountains at Bellagio, and the $20.00 roller coaster ride at NYNY.

We also went to the art exhibit displaying impressionist works from Monet to Van Gough. They gave each of us these magic wands that could explain each of the painters when you pressed the correct buttons. Lame presentation but the paintings were almost as magnificent as the Grand Canyon, a bargain at only $15.00 per.

We drove down The Strip on Saturday night, only took an hour to go 3 miles. Note to self, never do that again.

Several hundred accidents, a couple more shootings (stay out of North Vegas), and 20 traffic jams later, we were back at the airport. By the way, our car was searched at the Hoover Dam. Like I said, lucky to get home alive.

The Excalibur Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada

I have been to Las Vegas several times and my favorite place to stay on the Las Vegas strip is the Excalibur for a number of reasons. The Excalibur Hotel and Casino is located on the south end of the Las Vegas strip, and it has a medieval theme. It is in a shape of a castle with two towers. You can see it for several minutes before you land at the McCarren Airport. Most people choose to stay at The Excalibur because of it’s value and it’s location.

The Excalibur is one of the cheapest hotels that you can stay in on the strip. This is one of the reasons most people choose to stay there. The rooms are average in size, and very clean for being over ten years old. They also have a large arcade in the basement to play in, so it also caters to families who are vacationing to Las Vegas. There are so many games to choose from in the arcade, that you can easily stay down there for a whole day and not be bored.

The Excalibur is also known for it’s great variety of food at reasonable prices. They have a food court located on the third floor with lots of places to choose from. You can get anything from Krispy Kreme’s to McDonalds and Quiznos. There are tons of places to choose from at the food court that it is sure to please the whole family. Also located on the third floor is a few novelty shops and the buffet. The buffet is one of the cheapest on the strip and is really great.

There are a couple of things about The Excalibur that I do not like. First of all, is the slot selection on the casino floor. It is a large casino, but I do not think that they have the variety of slots like most other casinos that are located on the strip. I believe the main reason for this is that they catered more towards families. Another thing I do not like about The Excalibur is it’s noise level. It is a very large hotel and casino and since it is inexpensive, it frequently packs up and there is tons of people.

There is a nice pool that you can relax for hours in the sun. The pool is large enough so you do not feel so crowded when it is busy. The Excalibur has a monorail that runs between it and The Luxor and Mandalay Bay. This is convenient when you are tired of walking so much. The best part about it is that it runs almost all of the time and it is free. Right across the street from The Excalibur is New York, New York. They have an arcade about twice the size as well as a roller coaster on top of the casino. You have tons of entertainment options within a small walk.

I recommend that you stay at The Excalibur Hotel and Casino for it’s value, and just for the fact that you can do so many things so close together. Las Vegas can be really overwhelming, and at The Excalibur there is so many things to see and do right out your doorstep.

How to Make Las Vegas "Your Las Vegas"

Las Vegas is like any town or any tourist town. Las Vegas can be whatever you want Las Vegas to be. There is Las Vegas for children. There is Las Vegas for seniors. There is Las Vegas for gamblers. There is Las Vegas for those who like good food. There is Las Vegas for those who like freebies and discounts. There is Las Vegas for those who like great entertainment and great amusements. There is Las Vegas for those who like the history of Las Vegas. There is Las Vegas for those who like museums. There is Las Vegas for those who are just the ordinary residents of Las Vegas, like the ordinary residents of any tourist town--it's their town.

There's the Las Vegas for the workers--those who work at the casinos, those who work at the hotels, those who work at the motels, those who are the entertainers, those who are the owners of the casinos and the motels and the hotels.

What is your reason for going to Las Vegas?

If you're a senior interested in retiring to Las Vegas, Las Vegas has an excellent retirement community.

If you're a child traveling to Las Vegas with your parents, then Las Vegas is a child-friendly town. Get your parents to stay at Circus Circus for child-friendly Circus Acts.

Of course there are all the great casinos for the gamblers. As a gambler however you must know your budget and be a responsible gambler. You must know your best type of gambling. What type of gambling are you best at? How much money can you afford to gamble.

If you are not interested in gambling, but just like the finest entertainment, Las Vegas is considered by many "the entertainment capital of the world."

There are fine foods for every taste and every budget.

Interested in the history of Las Vegas, Las Vegas is among the great historical cities.

You can make any type of tourist city, your town by deciding what is the purpose of your going to that city as a tourist.

Let's say you're business travelers, then you can make Las Vegas a great town for business travelers.

Travel consultants and travel agents can help you to design Las Vegas so that it's Your Las Vegas.

If you're group travelers, tell your travel agent you're group travelers. If you're traveling with children, tell your travel agent you're traveling with children. If your interest is the finest entertainment, tell your travel agent. You can also work your vacation to Las Vegas around almost any type of budget.

Most of the best travel agents are great at helping tourists to "custom-design" your vacation to Las Vegas. Ask these travel agents. You can also go online to the various Las Vegas websites that can help you to "custom-design" your own Las Vegas vacation so that Las Vegas becomes "Your Las Vegas."

Top of the World restaurant

Advs: Fine food and drink, stunning views
Disadvs: If you are afraid of heights don’t come here! Not cheap.

Stunning! The Stratosphere Tower rises over 1000ft above the Las Vegas skyline. It is the tallest freestanding observation tower in the USA. The Stratosphere is situated in the older part of the town near Fremont Street (which in itself is an experience!) I haven’t stayed in the hotel but I have visited the “Top of the World” restaurant… and I can safely say it is out of this world.

The Restaurant is reached by an express lift from the ground floor of the tower you travel 800ft up in the central section. Yes… your ears will pop! When you get out of the lift, if you are afraid of heights don’t look down!

As you exit the lift you are greeted with the typical American casino style gift shop – products include T-shirts, Las Vegas maps & skyline at night posters, Fake gaming chips and so on… You can then walk out of the enclosed section out onto a balcony that circles the tower at this point. There are 360 degree views of Las Vegas, stunning at any time but much better when seen at sunset. You can walk all the way round this and there are “pay as you go” telescopes pointed in most directions so you can get a clearer view.

To access the restaurant you need to walk back into the guest shop and up the stairs… once you leave the guest shop and go into the restaurant it is a different world! For the best experience be sure to ask for a table near the windows in the revolving part of the restaurant. Yes, I did say revolving…

Once you have been seated then comes the difficult choice of choosing what to eat and drink, not easy let me assure you. Yes, this restaurant is more expensive than many in Las Vegas, but you are not only paying for stunning, well prepared food, you are also paying for a panoramic view of Las Vegas and the surrounding hill country. The full revolution takes 1hr 20minutes, so it is fairly slow.

The menu consists of an exceptional selection of fresh seafood and steaks, as well as some impressive signature dishes which including a Colorado Rack of Lamb and Chateaubriand 3-course dinner for two. The restaurant features an extensive wine list, which has earned them recognition from recognised American publications such as Wine Spectator. Each entrée (main) comes with a wine suggestion for those of us not so hot on picking our own!

Selection from the menu for example:

Muscovy Duck - $37
Duck breast thinly sliced served with potato Galette, Cipolline onions and Roma artichokes. Finished with roasted fig port reduction.

Wine Suggestion: Renwood, “Jack Rabbit Flat”, Zinfandel, Amador (9.00/glass)

Sea Bass - $39
Encrusted with Porcini mushroom dust, pan seared and served over wilted Romaine Finished with Riviera de Fiori extra virgin olive oil

Wine Suggestion: Chateau Moncontour, Vouvray, Loire (9.00/glass)

Prime Rib - $36
14 oz slow roasted Certified Angus Beef ® crusted with black pepper and herbs.

Wine Suggestion: J. Lohr “Cypress,” Merlot, California (8.50/glass)

Then comes the desert…. OH MY GOD!!
The perfect end to an amazing meal and views to die for… The Chocolate Stratosphere has to be seen, and eaten to be believed! Again each desert comes with a suggested liqueur.

Selection from the menu for example:

The Chocolate Stratosphere
Finish off your evening with our signature Stratosphere Tower filled with rich dark chocolate mousse and garnished tableside with vanilla sauce.

*1995 Dow’s “Quinta do Bomfim”, Porto

Berry Delight
Mixed seasonal berries marinated with Grand Marnier, layered with Zabaglione and garnished with vanilla bean ice cream.

*Godiva White Chocolate Martini

Flourless Chocolate Cake
Served warm and topped with chocolate gelato accompanied with raspberry coulis

*Godiva Dark Chocolate Martini

I would recommend visiting The Top of The World restaurant round about sunset, so that you can watch Las Vegas slowly turn from a relatively normal American cityscape to night when it comes alive.

If the prices above are too rich for your liking, the restaurant also does a lunch menu which is much cheaper. Yes, you get the same stunning views… but you don’t see Vegas at night!

And if you are feeling up to it afterwards, you can go back down to the guest shop and book a ticket for the any of the thrill rides that are on top of the restaurant that you have just eaten in…
