1. The Grand Canyon was created by the Colorado river over six million years. The Grand Canyon State Park is one of the first state parks created in the United States Theodore Roosevelt was a very big supporter of preserving the Grand Canyon. Each year five million tourists visit this magnificent park.

Picture from wikipedia

2. Yellowstone National park is located in the Mountains of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. Yellowstone is still considered one of the most pristine ecologies. The land for this state park was set aside in 1870.

Each year two million tourists visit Yellowstone. The abundant wildlife and hot geysers are common attractions. I always remember visiting Yellowstone.

3. Everglades is a complex system of sawgrass marshes, , cypress swamps, mangrove forests, pine rocklands, and marine environments. The Everglades are ever changing due to water and fire. The Seminole tribe still resides in and around the Everglades which is located in Southern Florida.

The Florida Panther lives in the Everglades and is on the Endangered species list.

4. Natural Bridge Caverns is the largest known commercial caverns. New Braunsfels, Texas hosts these caverns. As well as the spectacular caverns there is a safari tour. The stalagtites and stalagmites are spectacular. I have seen them they are a sight you will remember.

5. Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona. These trees have fossilized due to the organic matter decomposing and replacing the cells with minerals. Arizona has the most colorful and largest collection of petrified wood.

People are not suppose to take the petrified wood other wise they have to pay $285.00 for a fine.

The Petrified National forest was recognised as a state park in 1906.

6. Bear Glacier is located in the Kenai Fjords National park in Alaska. There is quite an abundance of marine life. The Glaciers are spectacular. The best way to see these glaciers is a boat tour. A lagoon surrounds Bear Glacier, the water in the lagoon is fresh water.

7. Bandera Ice Caves are located in New Mexico. Sometimes called "The most moon like expanse on Earth." Natural layers of ice glistens on reflection of sunlight.

10 Quick Facts About New York City

New York City is one of the biggest American cities where an estimated 8.2 million people call their home. While there is no possible way to address everything that New York City has to offer to both visitors and residents, here are “10 Quick Facts about New York City” that you may or may not already know about this great US city of concrete mountains.

New York City has quite a colorful history that actually can trace back its original roots to the Lenape inhabitants prior to the arrival of Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524, however then the city had not been named “New York City”. Under Dutch rule in 1625, the city was named “New Amsterdam” and later renamed “New York” in 1664, after the English took control of the area. Interestingly, New York City experienced a major leap forward in 1898 after the city consolidated the “Five Boroughs” that once divided the landscape and the peoples living there.

Quick Fact: Number One

New York City once served as the first capitol of the United States from September 13, 1788 to 1790.

Quick Fact: Number Two

General George Washington was inaugurated at the Federal Hall on Wall Street on April 30, 1789 to become the first President of the United States.

Quick Fact: Number Three

It is illegal to forage for food in New York City parks without having a permit.

Quick Fact: Number Four

In 1853, the City of New York purchased 768 acres of land that once contained old sheds left behind by colonists, pig farms, quarries and swamps. This land was added to the land that the city had already owned to create an 843-acre city oasis that was named “Central Park”.

Quick Fact: Number Five

In 1876, the French Government gave America the Statue of Liberty in honor of America's 100th birthday celebrating the country's independence. The Statue of Liberty was designed by Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi, which her face was modeled after his mother and the body modeled after a prostitute as the story is told. Gustave Eiffel, who is most famous for building the Eiffel Tower in Paris, built the steel framework of the Statue of Liberty and the completed 305-foot statue with pedestal was fully erected in 1886 on Liberty Island outside of New York City.

Quick Fact: Number Six

Chinatown located in the lower part of Manhattan was established in the 1870s by Chinese immigrants who decided to settle in New York City and brought their ancient traditions creating one of the largest Chinatowns in the United States. Visitors can shop until they drop at one of the hundreds of shops or stores scattered throughout the city within a city. Chinatown is chalk full of historical landmarks including a statue of Lin Ze Xu and The Church of the Transfiguration, the oldest Catholic Church building in New York City built in 1801.

Quick Fact: Number Seven

Grand Central Station was designed by John B. Snook a world famous architect that Cornelius Vanderbilt commissioned to design the railway station in 1869. In 1902, a horrific accident occurred in the Park Avenue tunnel taking the lives of seventeen people, because the smoke from the increased steam engines traveling through created poor visibility that led to the accident. In 1910, the use of steam engine trains were outlawed and replaced with electrified railway system that is still in use today.

Quick Fact: Number Eight

Ellis Island was originally built just off the southern tip of Manhattan on 27 ½ acres of land, just prior to the War of 1812. Later in the island's history it was used as the gateway to freedom and a new life in the United States, where more than 12 million people from around the world immigrated into the US. Now, Ellis Island is an Immigration Museum that is part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument and hosts an enormous archive of documents, photos and artifacts that tells the story of new beginnings of the men, women and children that passed through its gates, so to obtain the promise of freedom that America has offered to millions of people then and since.

Quick Fact: Number Nine

The Empire State Building is a towering 1253 foot skyscraper that has 73 elevators and took only one year and forty-five days to build from bottom to top. The classic film King Kong made in 1933, immortalize the Empire State Building in movie icon history and since then it has been featured in dozens of films and movies that only further cements its legacy in architectural history.

The United Nations Headquarters is located on Manhattan's eastern border on an eighteen acre plot of land that was purchased and later donated to the United Nations by billionaire John D. Rockefeller Jr. The entire area was eventually used to build the International meeting center and is actually considered International territory that does not officially belong to the United States and is governed by the International body of the UN.

The Cream of the Crop: 10 Crazy Corn Mazes That Man Imagined to Build

Driving along the scenic highways or the dusty, gravel roads of the farm-belt of the United States of America, you will see miles and miles of farmlands and pastures. Even though the majority of these farmlands grow the corn, grains, beans, rice and many other fruits and vegetables, some of the farmers are subsidizing their farming income by cutting or growing their corn crops in a particular way, so to create elaborate corn mazes and charge the public to take a trip through.

Mazes have always challenged us with puzzling twist and turns where some paths lead to the way out and other paths lead deeper into the maze and eventually to a dead-end. It is one thing to use a pencil or a pen to work a maze on paper or use a mouse to solve a maze on the computer, but it is something entirely different when we become the mouse scurrying around a corn maze on a grand scale and trying to find our way out before a search party is sent out looking for us.

Halloween is just around the corner and the time for many more corn mazes will be opening up, soon. The haunted corn mazes are the best in my opinion, having been through a few of them, myself. Trying to navigate through a corn maze during the daylight hours is hard enough, but Halloween haunted mazes open up at night and is filled with all sorts of sneak-up and gotcha props and actors. Of course, for me, it is hard to stop thinking about the horror film “Children of the Corn” when I am coursing through a corn maze at night.

Sever's Safari

Challenge yourself to a safari corn maze in Shakopee, Minneapolis and at least you will not have to fear getting attacked by a hungry lion or charged by a protective bull elephant.

If I Only Had A Brain

The adorable “Scarecrow” from the classic movie “The Wizard of Oz” was cut in a 10-acre corn field, which I imagine would have us seeing flying monkeys in a couple of hours of mass confusion. This maze was located in Boise, Idaho.

Belmont Corn Maize

While not in the farm-belt of the United States, this 10-acre maze was located about fifteen minutes southeast of London, Ontario and sponsored by Husky Travel Centre in 2006. To make the journey through the maze spookier, the guest could stumble into a haunted cemetery and scary Halloween decorations.

2005 Great Lakes Chevy Dealers Corn Maze

Auto dealers are sponsoring everything these days and this corn maze drives over its competition. This maze is probably much tougher than it looks.

The Pig Is Back

Maybe the thought of being lost in the bowels of a happy-go-luck piggy isn't your idea of spooky and maybe your right, but this bacon is enough to make almost anyone sizzle with a bit of frustration after walking in circles for awhile.

2006 Special Olympics

The Special Olympics USA National Games sponsored this amazing 18.5-acre corn maze, just outside Knoxville, Iowa that at the time was considered the potentially the world's largest corn maze.

Jurassic Utah

Located in Pleasant Grove, Utah, the “Jurassic Utah” corn maze has brought the dinosaurs back to life again. There is nothing worse than being lost inside the loins of a giant T-Rex, except maybe being eaten by one.

Oregon Pumpkin Patch Corn Maze

Located near Terrebonne and Smith Rock, Oregon, this maze resembles the “The Wizard of Oz” yellow brick road and the castle of the Wizard. Nonetheless, this is one that I personally would pass on for times sake.

Jack-o-lantern

Scream Acres created this Jack-o-lantern corn maze in 2007 for their haunted maze tours. Guests are treated to worst nightmares that the Scream Team could dream up and their monsters could jump out and grab the guests at any given time. Located on Leaders Farm in Northwest Ohio.

Vesperman Farms “The Most Challenging” Corn Maze

Some farms design there corn mazes to scare visitors and others are paid by sponsors to promote a service or product, but Vesperman Farms set out to create the most challenging corn maze. The twisting turns and endless dead-ends are enough to drive you mad like one of Steven King's characters in the movie “The Shining”. Located in Southwest Wisconsin is the most challenging 5-acre maze to puzzle visitors for hours.

Wonderful Tourism Facts Accidentally Acquired From US Government Sites

Manhattan is the most popular tourist destination in the US and draws roughly sixty times as many tourists every year as there are people living in Alaska. Hence Alaska is America's less densely populated state, and Times Square is America's most crowded couple of streets.

For every person living in Hawaii, there are ten tourists visiting there.

About eight times as many people visit Cape Cod every year than there are people living in Boston. And about forty times as many swing by Faneuil Hall.

A little less than half of the tourists in the US come from Western Europe. A little over a quarter come from Asia. That means that roughly 25% of visiting foreigners in the US come from countries that most Americans have never heard of.

For every business trip to the US there are two holidays, and tourists tend to stay more than twice as long as business people. Another curious detail is that in the US there are slightly more overseas tourists traveling alone than overseas business folk traveling with associates. Also worth mentioning is that for every 16 visitors that say they're there for leisure, one is sneakily there for business, while for every 22 so-called business visitors there's one who does nothing but hang around and get a tan!

Among tourists to the US there are about twice as many first-timers as there are among business people, which leads to believe that it's way better to keep doing business with Americans than to keep visiting them socially.

Tourists to the US are slightly more often male than female, but if they come to do business they're way more often male. This may mean that there are more men in overseas businesses but it may also mean that overseas businesses prefer to keep their women close to home.

Male visitors are in general four years older than women visitors, no matter if they come to do business or to go sight seeing. Tourists are in general one year older than business people, which makes perfect sense. Curiously enough, business people who come to the US have roughly a 15% higher annual income than tourists who come to the US.

How many tourists actually visit any specific State per year remains a mystery.

Invercagill City was voted last year as the loniliest city in the world. Even when boasting about the city being a gateway to some of New Zealand's most beautiful scenery (such as Stewart Island, Fiordland, Catlins), Invercagill still holds the “Loneliest City” trophy. The city mayor tried lifting the city's profile another notch by competing in the NZ celebrity “Dancing with the stars”. I'll leave how he did in the competition up to one's own imagination.

The smallest capital city in the world (well that's what Wellington residents thing they are) isn't growing outwards but more like downwards. Famous for the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, Wellington is known as the “middle earth”. With an earth quake fault line running through the centre of the city, the city is expanding downwards (hint: thumbwise). Wellington is also famous for it's cafe lifestyle. Every corner you turn is a cafe (need to keep residents awake in case there is a rumble/tsunami warning).

New Zealand's most famous world record is for creating the worlds largest tape ball weighing at a staggering 53kg and a circumference of 2.5m. It took the two students who made it 2 months to complete. Now you know what New Zealanders get up to in their free times... their whereabouts will remain anonymous for now as they are working on creating another Guinness book of records title.

If you want to bleach your lungs or experience the smell of sulfur, and NO, I'm not talking about few seconds, then head to Rotorua. This is the boiling mud capital of New Zealand. On first sight you might think that the vikings had landed and torched the villages. The scene is spectacular. A word of warning: bring a gas mask with you in case of emergency.

Lastly but not the least, there are more sheep in New Zealand than there are human beings. Apparently, the hidden theory behind all this is that the agrilab is cloning the sheep population. Few years from now, you will see a cross-breed between sheep and humans. Warning: This has nothing to do with the sheep-shagging story.

Lamma Island

The Lamma Island is only 20 minutes away from Hong Kong Island on one of the fast ferries. It is an oasis of greenery, with beautiful walks and scenic views.

The third largest of Hong Kong's islands after Hong Kong and Lantau, it is home to about 6,000 people who live mainly around peaceful villages of Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan.

There are also remote settlements. At Yung Shue Ha, members of the founding Chinese clan all have the same surname: Chow.

Lamma is a day trip haven from the big city: soak up the relaxed lifestyle of the locals, the idyllic beaches and the countryside walks. Life is simple here, with no cars on the island at all. There is a very special villagey atmosphere that makes it a spellbinding place to visit and charms both Chinese and expats who have set up home there.

The majority of the island is green and untouched: beautiful beaches such as Sham Wan are left untainted by developers and Mount Stenhouse dominates the south of the island at 353 meters high. But where there is life, the communities are vibrant.

Yung Shue Wan is home to a main street, running from a ferry pier, lined with shops and some curious bars and restaurants, a bank and a post office. For a day visit, this is a good place to begin. Stock up on water and snacks and set off on a gentle hike over to Sok Kwu Wan.

If you have time, explore other areas of the island. Take a towel and beachwear and find a beach to relax on or just make use of your hiking boots to get a feel for the coves and treasures. Like many others, you may find it hard to leave.
