Wonderful Beaches

The gateway to paradise the Bahamas, this paradise has an island called Bimini there is North Bimini where all the night life takes place and there is South Bimini and the Fountain of Youth. Ponce De Leon thought he discovered the Fountain of Youth on South Bimini. You can still see the marker near the airport. The quiet atmosphere on the South Island is great for scuba diving, fishing or just relaxing. I can see how he thought it was the fountain of youth, your cares just wash away on this island and erase any stress you may have. This will certainly put years back on you.

The beautiful waters off the islands are crystal clear. You can see over 200 feet straight down and if you put on a scuba mask and look down I promise, you feel as if you are in space.

This wonderful island is a great fisherman's paradise also, so ladies get your men because they will definitely shell out the clams to spend time here.

I will be honest I went to Bimini for a scuba diving adventure and although the beaches are small but wonderful the scuba diving is the ultimate adventure for anyone. There are old ship wrecks with a ton of marine life living in them. We saw Moray Eels (careful they do not like attention or strangers) and nurse sharks are abundant. These are the sharks that eat off the bottom of the ocean. You can also see a concrete roadway in the ocean that some people think is the roadway to Atlantis.

There are several bars and restaurants on the North Island. This is an ideal place to be if you want a relaxing atmosphere. The people love the tourist and welcome you with open arms.

The Top Things to See and Do in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

If you're looking for a place to vacation that's exotic, exciting, entertaining and restful than Cabo San Lucas is your ideal. Part Eden, part wonderland, this small city located at the tip of the Baja California peninsula has an amazing diversity guaranteed to please everyone.

Chilean Bay

For those of you looking for a quiet, restful spot in the sun to park in for a few days and simply vegetate, Bahia Chileno or Chilean Bay with its pristine white sand and non-crowded space is the beach for you. It's easy to find on the right side of Highway 1 leading to San Jose. From the parking lot it is only a brief walk to the beach. Palapas are available, but it's best to bring your own beach umbrella to assure yourself of a place in the shade. It is worth noting that this is one of the only beaches that has restroom facilities with flushing toilets, but it's always a wide move to bring your own paper.

Snorkeling and Scuba Diving

Snorkeling and scuba diving are fantastic here. Snorkeling is especially fun because there are many reefs and cliffs for fish of all types to hide amongst and be discovered. Clownfish, blue damsels, puffer fish, and even a tuna or two are out there just waiting to be photographed, so don't forget your underwater camera! A word of warning, however. Rent your snorkeling equipment while in Cabo San Lucas, as there are no guarantees it will be easy to find or available once you are at the beach. And don't worry, prices are very reasonable.

Bullfighting

For those craving more excitement, there is a familiar pastime in Cabo San Lucas, bullfighting! Yes indeed these breathtaking and stunning events still take place right here every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon and are attended by large crowds. But rest assured that great pains are taken to make certain that no animals are harmed during the performances. The building where all this takes place is located within easy reach of the city centers, and the action is so spectacular that it is more than worth the price of admission.

Bungee Jumping and Cruises

Need still more excitement? Then bungee jumping is for you! There's nothing like the thrill of a bungee jump -- or so I've been told -- from the Baja Bungee, which is near Medano Beach. Almost 30 meters/100 feet high, the Bungee tower offers amazing views around Cabo San Lucas.

A sunset cruise around Cabo San Lucas Bay is a wonderful way to relax and unwind after a vigorous day of touring, and an added benefit is that you get to do some more sightseeing, this time while sitting back and sipping a cool drink of your choice. For something different, there are also cruises available on large catamarans, which depart from the dock at the Hacienda Beach Resort, champagne breakfast cruises, and luxury dinner cruises, which pass Lover's Beach and Land's End while you dine on some of the finest meals in Cabo San Lucas.

The World's Most Attractive Atolls

An atoll is an island of coral that encircles a lagoon partially or completely. Most of the world's atolls are in the Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean with only a few small ones in the Atlantic Ocean.

The lists of the most attractive atolls below are the most ideal places for beach and nature lovers including divers. They will surely enjoy swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving among many other activities on these wonderful gifts of nature. (Photos courtesy of Wikipedia)

Aldabra Atoll: Seychelles

Aldabra atoll is considered the second largest atoll by dry land area with 155 km² and regarded as the largest raised coral atoll in the world. This beautiful paradise which is located in Seychelles in the Indian Ocean is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The atoll's islands nurture an array of both unique flora and fauna, as well as the world's largest population of 150,000 giant tortoises. Its lagoon boasts the most vibrant marine life of the entire archipelago.

Aitutaki Atoll: Cook Islands

Aitutaki Atoll is the second most visited island of the Cook Islands. It is traditionally known also as Araura, Ararau and Utataki. The barrier reef that forms the basis of Aitutaki is roughly the shape of an equilateral triangle with each side measuring 12 km in length. Aitutaki is famous for its turquoise central lagoon, uninhabited islands and palm-fringed beaches. Another advantage is that until now it has been spared by mass tourism. One Foot Island, which is part of the atoll, was awarded “Australasia's Leading Beach” at the World Travel Awards held in Sydney in June 2008.

Rapota and Moturakau Islands were the locations of the first series of the UK reality television program Shipwrecked in 2000. In 2001, Steve Fossett passed over just south of Aitutaki in the balloon Solo Spirit during his round-the-world trip. In 2006, the island was used as the location for the tribal council in Survivor: Cook Islands. Surrounding islands were used for tribal camps and crew locations. Then, not long afterwards, Shipwrecked returned again, with Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands. This was filmed on the same islands as before. Aututaki has a population of approximately 2,000 only but has 8 Rugby teams.

Bikini Atoll: Marshall Island

An ideal place to explore of adventurer is the Bikini Atoll. Bikini Atoll is a ring of coral islets, forming parts of the Republic of the Marshall Islands in the west-central Pacific Ocean. It consists of 36 islets encircling a large lagoon with a land area of about 3 square mi (8 sq km). Bikini Island is well-known for being the subject of nuclear bomb tests, and because the bikini swimsuit was named after the island in 1946.

Only limited number of divers head for the lagoon at Bikini every year for an extensive tour of World War II naval vessels. Due to the dangers of the radioactivity and limited services in the area, divers are staying away from one of the most remarkable potential diving sites in the Pacific. The dive spot has become popular among divers in the last 10 years. The lagoon contains a larger amount of sealift than usual due to the lack of fishing, including sharks, increasing the fascination with the spot as a diver's adventure spot.

Orona Atoll: Kiribati

Another ideal place for adventurer is the Orona Atoll. Orona Atoll which is also known then as Hull Island is one of the Phoenix Islands in the Republic of Kiribati, an island nation in the Pacific Ocean. It is a narrow ribbon of land surrounding a sizable lagoon with depths of 15-20 meters. Numerous passages connect the lagoon to the surrounding ocean, only a couple of which will admit even a small boat. Total land area is 3.9 sq. km, and the maximum elevation is nine meters.

Although occupied at various times during the past, including as late as 2004, Orona is uninhabited today. An attempt was made to re-establish a settlement on Orona from 2001-04, but this appears to have failed. Orona, together with the other Phoenix Islands, was proclaimed in 2008 to be part of the Phoenix Islands Protected Area, the world's largest marine protected area. Orona contains evidence of prehistoric Polynesian inhabitation. An ancient stone marae stands on the eastern tip of the island, together with ruins of shelters, graves and other platforms.

The area is covered with towering coconut palms and the remainder of the atoll is covered with scrub forest, herbs and grasses. Feral cats, rats, pigs, and dogs exist on the island. Ducks and chickens were raised by the former inhabitants, but it is unknown whether any remain. Orona also boasts three species of lizards, Polynesian rats, land and hermit crabs, together with approximately fifty species of insects. Turtles are also known to use the island as a nesting area.

Tetiaroa Atoll: French Polynesia

One fabulous place you shouldn't miss is Tetiaroa. Tetiaroa, one of the Society Islands, is an atoll 59 km north of Papeete, the capital of French Polynesia on the island of Tahiti. Tetiaroa Atoll has a width of 7.3 km and is made up of 12 small islands called motus. The first thing you will notice is this island is not developed at all! Its peaceful pristine natural setting and absolute secluded charm are what attracted Marlon Brando to this atoll, and during his years of ownership here he did everything he could to keep it that way.

Best things to do in the area are; swimming, walking around and exploring the many tiny motus which comprise the area, snorkeling, scuba diving, and checking out Bird Island.

All these beautiful paradises are vying for a place in the search for the New 7 Wonders of the World. One thing is certain; visiting these places is 100% pollution-free.

Diving is mainly in coral slopes and shallow gardens among sandy patches. Choose from any of the 24 dive sites between the coast of Anilao and Maricaban Island. The most popular site is the Cathedral (average of 60 ft.), a roofless cavern with a blessed cross flanked by two large sea mounts.

Balicasag Island, Bohol

Apo Reef, Negros Oriental

Apo Reef National Park is another UNESCO World Heritage Site

Apo Reef National Park is acclaimed as one of the best diving sites in Asia. It is a 34-kilometer reef, with a narrow channel running east to west, dividing this reef into two lagoon systems, north and south. Apo Reef is the second largest contiguous coral reef in the world and the largest in the Philippines.

Palawan's Surrounding Islands

Coron, El Nido and Busuanga are just three of the many dive sites in Palawan.

Coron Bay is one of the most popular diving destinations in the Philippines. This site is one of the most famous wreck diving destinations in the entire world due to the amount of historic sunken ships which can be visited and seen with great clarity due to this area's waters usual transparency.

El Nido is one of the world class diving destinations in the Philippines. El Nido dive sites are also the home of the exotic and colorful tropical marine life. With its unexploited underwater scenery, divers will have a good look on the colorful tropical fishes and corals. In El Nido alone, there are 20 dive sites already.

Coron is one of a small fishing and trading town on the temperate island of Busuanga, Province of Palawan. Just 1 hour away from Manila via airplane, it is a gateway to the ultimate tropical resorts surrounding the Calamian Island Group Southwest of Manila.

Places to See

Tapyas Ecological Park, Busuanga Island

Go up to its 800 cemented steps and you will find it worthwhile to see the majestic view of Coron Island and its entirety. The scenery and the windy atmosphere on the top provide an experience of nature's beauty that could only be found on the rarest opportunity…

Maquinit Hot Springs, Busuanga Island

Relax and stretch those tired bodies in the flowing salt water spring pools, known to have healing properties and therapeutic benefits. A 30 minute journey from Coron, these two privately maintained pools will soothe even the distant veins of your inner being.

Barracuda Lake, Coron Island

Live to tell the tale… Witness a barracuda 5 feet long roaming the eerie placidness of the lake. Steep limestone cliffs surround this body of water. Temperature ranges from 28-38 celsius, hot but divable up to maximum depth of 100 feet. Do you have the guts to dive and photograph the big barracuda? Can you endure the heat that creeps within the dark misty lake?

Cayangan Lake, Coron Island

“OKIKAWA MARU” is a 50 feet long wreck, which is often affected by strong tidal currents. Good corals and sponges comprise most of the marine life in this area. Penetration possibilities are for advanced divers only.

“AKITSUSHIMA”, the Japanese flying boat tender, divers can strikingly breach the engine room to see the four engines lying in the deep blue sea.

“KOGYO MARU”, a freighter sunk with bulldozer, cement mixer, anti-aircraft guns and airfield building equipment on its Hold. Now, shoals of fish and corals inhabit the wreck.

“IRAKO”, the hull is still quite intact with corals and sponges outlying the structures. A big ship with clear visibility underwater, but too deep for begineers.

“TANGAT WRECK”, a freighter with a length of approximately 450 feet, this is an ideal dive spot with various marine life such as giant puffers and banaba fishes roaming on its mast and stern. Cargo rooms can be penetrated easily.

“NANSHIN MARU”, a tanker with approximately 130-165 feet, it sits upright on sandy bottom where it could be seen in most clear water. Night dive is also possible in this site.

“GUNBOAT AT TANGAT”, close to Tangat island, this small gunboat or U-boat Hunter is approximately 114 feet and can be reached at a maximum of 59 feet underwater. You can see the shape and explore the ship even at 10 feet under.

“KYOKUZAN MARU”, a freighter 500-600 feet long located at the Northeast of Busuanga island. Still complete with Japanese cars and trucks in its cargo rooms, this big wreck offers good visibility up to 65 feet.

GUNBOAT AT LUSONG”, close to Lusong island, this gunboat is similar to the gunboat wrecked at Tangat island. Ideal for snorkeling, the ship's stern breaks the water above during low tide and exposes variety of fish and hard corals to adore.

Ocean Kayaking

Paddle up while strolling in-between islands through an ocean kayak. Revere the limestone scenery and the mangrove forests around it through the vast salt sea.

Horseback Riding

Just half a dollar tricycle ride from Coron lies the land of the cowboys, Mabintangen's-Horse Valley! Enjoy the trip around different plantations, forests, rivers and hills within the islands through horseback riding. Then celebrate Saturday evening with grilled beefsteak and roasted potatoes in the midst of a bonfire's country atmosphere. Half day activity cost at about $12.00, full day at $24.00.

Wind Surfing

A windsurfer? Then you have no excuse to get involve. A wind during May to December of the year is steady and perfect for many windsurfers. Renting a surfboard is available in most resorts.

Snorkeling

The undersea world is now yours to discover! Explore beatiful reefs in each island and swim through the clearest ocean of water adorned with living colors of sponges, fishes and corals in different shapes and sizes gliding out from the shallow.

Island and Beach Hopping

There are 80 islands and islets which makes the Calamian Group of Islands or Calamianes waiting for you to explore. Each are famous for its own distinctive feature. Take for example Malajon Island (or Black Island) and its caves and caverns, Calambuyan Island and its beautiful coral reefs and the Talampulan and its fishing village called Panlaitan. Maybe you could discover more…

Beach Bonfire & Picnic

Find love with your partner in front of a romantic bonfire or enjoy with your family the sun and ocean sound in the background on a white sun beach in one of Coron's neighboring resorts.

Bird Watching

Behind the Kokusnuss Garden Resort at Coron is an avian realm of exceptional beauty. From seafishers, swallows, fantail and others-you have to experience it to complete the list.

Mountain Climbing & Hiking

Still not satisfied with ocean adventuring? Challenge yourself, prepare your camping gear and launch an expedition to the second highest mountain in Palawan. Tundalara is a 2,000 ft. mountain that poses a 3 to 4 hours hike to serious climbers. Advisable to bring a guide (with a local fee of $10.00), this activity could further take you to the wildest place of the island.

Motorbiking

Walking just to see the other beautiful places of the island is tiresome. Why walk when you can bike? A cool activity for those motorbike experts. Follow the 45 minute track that leads to Yulo King Ranch, a 40,000 hectare cattle ranch that likened to an African Savanna. Or take the longest 2 hour route via National Highway that leads to Concepcion Waterfall, a peaceful and idyllic place to be. Just don your protective clothes and trousers for it will be a dusty ride ahead. Rental fee for the bike is pegged at $16.00.
