who cancels a trip bc of 2 posts? fat is not the point. the point is: let the world be, stop trying to make things follow the american way. you are reading this post and replies as an american. for me as a mexican, i see two giggly girls describing the freak show in a mexican store.

we don't have attitudes, we're just tired of americans constantly taking the baton, deciding which way the world must go. the beauty of travel is to experience a different place and culture. what is the point of traveling if everything is the same as back home?

and you must be thinking "oh....but unsanitary isn't culture", well you've upgraded the definition of sanitary SO many times, it's kinda hard. everything might be squeaky clean in the states, but what about the absolutely ridiculous amounts of prescription medication in the drinking water? the water in the city i live in is cleaner than most u.s. cities supply. how can you live with that?

and latinos in the states being fat, well a) traditional ingredients (e.g. lean meats, grains, fruits, and veggies) are more expensive in the states, and b) look it up, a lot of studies have identified a higher concentration of fast food joints in poor city areas in the states.

last but not least, mostly cause i don't think anyone will ever learn: come to mexico, don't blog while in mexico, think before you speak, try everything at least once, don't pass judgement. i can assure you everyone you meet will be more than kind, that's just who we are. and if they aren't, remember ppl have bad days once in a while, it might not be about you at all.

no one i know hates any one american, but the collective ideas of americans. remember that, as a nation people dislike you, but as an individual, if you are respectful of others, you will always receive a warm welcome.
I am sorry I read these posts. We were planning a trip to Mexico but after sharing these posts with my gf, we have decided to go to the islands instead. Who wants to be around a country so hateful of Americans? What horrible attitudes you have. All Americans are not fat. We have more fat Hispanics and Latinos where I live in Atlanta than Americans and the majority of them are women and children - what's up with that?

thanks mexican. i was about to write the same thing but you've covered it. There are hundreds of different ways to do things other than the AMERICAN way and they all work perfectly for those cultures. Step outside your narrow perspective and stop being so ethnocentric.

have you ever thought about how neurotic you've become? the pastries are FINE. they're in high demand, so people snatch them up pretty quickly and a new batch comes out within the hour. they're not sitting out there that long. besides, i've NEVER heard of someone getting sick from their over-exposed-to-dirty-mexican-air pastries. why didn't you mention the sushi, meat, and deli displays, where everything IS under glass cases? different items, different handling.

you guys really gotta reevaluate the system imposed on you. obviosuly there are perks, but you gotta know your way is not THE way, why must you ALWAYS compare things to the way the're done in the states? you're kinda stripping some of the beauty from travel and culture.

fortunately, the states is not somewhere i TRAVEL to, or else i'd be overwhelmed, asking myself "why are these people so goddmaned fat? why are they so thoughtless to everyone else? is common courtesy dead?" you've become absolutley dominated by paranoia and fear, over-analyzing every single detail before taking a simple step in every-day life.
