Give your child a fun and inexpensive Chicago cultural experience with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Thank to Kraft Corporation the Chicago Symphony Orchestra has developed a family matinee series that's educational, fun and inexpensive.
For less than $18.00 a ticket, you and your family can see a world-class symphony orchestra. Each matinee show has a central theme and a visual presentation that enhances the musical experience. Though the 2007-2008 matinee season has ended the subscription drive for the 2008 -2009 has just begun. A family of three can see all three of the matinee concerts for the low price of $126.00. That comes out to just $42.00 per concert!
In today's economy, $42.00 per concert is a great value for an afternoon of music and fun. One hour prior to each concert the Symphony Orchestra offers special activities for the kids including crafts, story telling, musical presentation and events related to the theme of that day's matinee concert.
During this year's presentation of Peter & the Wolf, the kids were encouraged to make their own animal puppets and a mime artist taught the kids how to be certain animals through silent movement. Children were also encouraged to create their own music, which was then performed for them by a member of the Orchestra. Every child present was extremely pleased with all the things that they could do and the excitement of the children going into the concert hall could be felt in the air.
Next year's season is shaping up to be just as exciting with the first concert in November, Latin American Rhythms. It's described as a tour through Latin America in both music and dance. Adding to the excitement, this concert will also feature Brazilian guitarists Sergio and Odair Assad who will be playing Four Seasons of Buenos Aires by Piazzolla.
The second concert of the series is called Tchaikovsky's Tales and will introduce children not only to Russian fairytales but to the world class Joffery Ballet is also slated to perform as the visual entertainment
The third and final concert will be Big Ben's Odyssey. The back-story of this presentation is to be about a boy named Ben who is lost in the British Isles and is trying to find his way home. Music from Gilbert and Sullivan, Mendelssohn and Vaughan Williams will be the backdrop to this special odyssey.
Over all next season is shaping up to a great way of exposing your child to one of Chicago's cultural icons without breaking the bank.
