Always on top of the news, or allowing it to pile on top of me rather I found an interesting blog spot called The Beer Geek. This chronicle of grand adventure is being published by a couple of self described “beer geeks” They are spending the year traveling the world in search of great beer adventures, and have been chronicling their adventures at the beergeek .com The Ramblings of Beer Travels are located at The Beer Geek Blog. Obviously one would not attempt typing that URL under the influence of any adult beverages.
The great beer chronicles, for Chris Nelson, beer aficionado and his wife Merideth Canham-Nelson, both residents of Carmel Valley California, began in beautiful Anchorage Alaska, where he and his wife attended the greatly acclaimed annual Alaskan Beer & Barley wine festival. The event, which occurred in mid January, brought together more than one hundred brewers and about two thousand self acclaimed beer lovers. Now as a self acclaimed beer lover, my devotion to the Barley and Hops does not go so far as this. I will suffer rain, cold and in some rare instances; I have even been known to cross state lines a time or two for my love of beer and disdain of blue laws, but to suffer through weather well below 32 degrees for a taste of any beer would be above and beyond the call of duty.
Chris's first posting on his beer chronicles described in great detail visiting a meeting of a brewer's club, where they tantalized their taste buds with such local foods caribou summer sausage, and moose salami. To help wash down these local delights was a wide variety of home and micro brewed beers.
Chris Nelson owns a web design company in California, and Merideth is a clinical social worker. They are paying for their trip out of pocket, and are not accepting sponsorships or affiliations with any brewery companies. They plan to take one beer outing a month, and will immortalize those details in their great beer blog. I for one will be observing the travels of the beer lovers as they travel the globe in search of that better beer, and hospitality that usually goes with small home brewers, and micro breweries.
