Greece - Oldworldly Charm At Its Best

Greece is one of the most romantic places in the world. One of the ancient cities in the world, the country features sites that will be perfect for people who are fascinated with history and would like to travel back in time. The rich culture and quiet atmosphere of Greece is also very ideal for honeymooning couples.

Here are some of the places that you can visit if you ever decide to go to Greece.

The Acropolis

No place will perhaps complete your itinerary than this stunning monument that speaks of the rich history and colorful past of Greeks. The Acropolis is a symbol of the Grecian love and worship for the Gods and Goddesses. This is where Athena's sacred temple, the Parthenon can be found. Although the temple is not like what it was decades ago, the temple has retained its old world charm. If you are going to visit the acropolis make sure that you go there early in the morning or really late in the afternoon to avoid huge crowds that go there.

You can take the pedestrian pathways via the Athens Metro, which makes it easier for tourists and people to go there. It is a great place to stroll and just reflect on things. If you are not the tourist who wants to try all, skip the Sound and Light show as it can be really corny.

The National Archaeological Museum

Being one of the ancient cities in the world, Greece boasts of so many museums that you will probably not be able to visit each one on your first day. One of the most popular tourist destination in Greece is the National Archaeological Museum, which displays great artifacts from the olden times. One of the best collection in the museum is the Kouroi, tall archaic and god-like structures of young men that are depicted as young gods of ancient times. They are displayed in a rich red background that will remind us of ancient temples, statues and walls. There are also Egyptian antiquities collections that you can also view on the top floors.

The Island of Santorini

This is one island that is well worth the visit if not for the mysteries that it holds for people. Legends like that of the Atlantis, the missing Minoans and vampires will certainly fill up your imagination. These, coupled with a really great view of the sunset, great restaurants selections and fine-tasting local wines, will make for a really unbeatable combination.

One of the sights that you should not miss when visiting the island of Santorini is the once-buried city of Akrotiri, which can be seen under a tin roof. You can also stay in Fira, where there are lots of restaurants to eat at and shops to visit. If you want a quiet retreat where you can just relax, you can go to Oia.

The Island of Mykonos

Another island that is ultra famous is the Mykonos, which has a great nightlife and lots of shopping sites. The island is actually the most famous of all Greek islands and in fact has been the venue of lots of international events. The island boasts of great sandy beaches that are perfect for long romantic walks, which is probably why it is also one of the best honeymoon destination in the country.

One drawback of the island is that there is sometimes a problem of over crowdedness and commercialism. Being really popular, a lot of people go here especially during peak seasons. So if you want to go to a place where you can get some peace and quiet, this is not the place for you.
