Monoprix Supermarket
The Market is a great place to go for various kinds of pates, cheese, lettuce and other basic sandwich fixings for fairly cheap, as well as featuring some inexpensive wine. Baguettes are also available, and everything can be brought back, made and wrapped up to take on a sightseeing tour and it will save you some money for one fancy dinner before you leave the city.
Crepe Stands
These are very popular all over the city, especially at tourist's sites such as the Eiffel Tower. Tourists and locals alike love going to the crepe stands for these cheap, fast, easy and delicious food items. Crepes are of traditional French cuisine are thin pancakes made from wheat flour. Anything can be put inside such as meat, cheeses, creams and eggs for a main course of food, vegetables for appetizers, and for desserts sometimes fruits, ice cream and jellies.
La Cave de l'Os à Moelle
Across the street from l'Os à Moelle, it is a wine bar extension with no menu. For 20€ you eat whatever is on special that day, in buffet style. They offer about one hundred French wines with a modest price tag, and in the summer there are spots to sit outside and enjoy your food. It is better to go at lunch, as there is only seating for about thirty people at a time, and the bistro fills up quickly at night. You can choose to buy a wine at a take away price, or you can talk with a sommelier and pick a wine in your price range.
To save some money, you can refuse breakfast at your hotel and the charge will be taken off your total bill. A croissant and coffee generally go for 2€, and while that does seem like a very good deal, keep in mind the exchange rate for travelers that do not use the Euro. Currently the Euro is worth about 1.35$ US dollars, and 1.50$ Canadian dollars.
You must be very careful of where you choose to eat in Paris, as some items are very overpriced. For French breakfast (3 oz. of hot chocolate, 3oz. of orange juice, a croissant, butter and baguette bread) it can cost 10€ (approximately 13$ in US currency) and if you would like to add eggs and bacon to that, the price jumps up to 35€ (Approximately 47$ in US currency) A hot sandwich and soda generally go for about 4€ around tourist places, and a breakfast at the world famous McDonald's is about 3€. At a restaurant, if you would like water ask for a "carafe de l"eau'. If you just ask for water, the waiter will bring sparkling water, which will be added to your bill. Always check your bill when you get it to make sure all of the charges are correct and that the person serving you has not added on any extras that you did not want.
