The first time I stepped on the ground of Subic Bay I fell in love with its beauty right away. I was inside the jungle where I could see the view of mountains and sea. The breeze of the air was really different from the city and other places in the Philippines.
I've been there a lot of times and never got tired of falling in love with the place. For some people it's a just vacation place but for me it's a paradise. It seems that it has a soul that could speak if you know how to listen.
So what is Subic Bay? Subic Bay was an American Naval Base in the Philippines. It was one of the largest American Bases outside the United States. It's located in Zambales in the island of Luzon. The base was forced to close due to the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991. On November 24, 1992 the marines and sailors left the place and it was closed. The Philippine Senate voted against the extended stay of the American Military Forces.
Until now, you could see the barracks that they made in the jungle and the other training equipments they had. The constructions of the buildings are old and the houses are located in the woods. Sometimes when I look at the tourists it seems that they don't know anymore what this place was. As time goes on, the history is fading in front of their eyes. The former American Naval Base is now a tourist vacation spot.
So what is Subic Bay now? It's a vacation place where you can see interesting sights like the Ocean Adventure, the country's open-sea park, the Pamulaklakin Nature Park, which is home to the Aetas who once trained the U.S. Navy about the jungle survival strategies, and Zoobic Safari.
Subic Bay is a vacation place where you can do a lot of things. So what do you want to do on your vacation? Play golf, trek in the jungle, get a tan in the beach, visit the animals in the zoo, play with the dolphins, catch a fish in the lake, ride the banana boat, shop at the duty free shops, meet the street monkeys, go to the bar, run in the track and field…there is more to do in this place.
So, if you have plans of going to the Philippines, I suggest you visit Subic Bay!
