The Dead Sea

A short report I did on the Dead Sea.

The Dead Sea is located in Israel. The sea is the lowest place on Earth. It is 1,371 feet below sea level. The banks of the Dead Sea have receded by many hundred feet because of the evaporation and the companies that take salt from the water. Only 2-4 inches of rain fall there each year.

It also has the highest salinity at 30%. The Dead Sea is used for many ways including its salt. The salt from the Dead Sea is used for table salt. It is taken from the water by a method of desalination. The Dead Sea is so consecrated with salt that it can build up onto still objects in the sea.

The average summer temperature is 95 degrees. The average winter temperature is 71 degrees. The Dead Sea can hold no fish or other organisms because of the high salt content. Researchers have however discovered algae growing in the sea.

The Dead Sea has also become a tourist attraction because its high salt content can let someone float on the surface of the water very easily. Also it has become a spa where people can go get different types of things.
